Worship is Online for Advent

The Council has been listening to all of you about your longings to be back worshipping in person, and we share them.  The hope had been to start having a very small-group on Sunday morning at Freeborn made up of people helping lead in the streaming worship and a few others.  However, in the last few days, the COVID cases in Stanwood (including 141 cases and 9 deaths now at Josephine since the end of October) have caused us to reconsider.  Worship for Advent is now going to be live-streamed and recorded instead.  On Nov 29th and Dec 13th we will do joint services with Faith, and on Dec 6th and 20th we’ll do separate services.  Pastor Erik will lead his parts from Freeborn’s sanctuary, but without other people present.

There are lots of ways for you to participate in worship—doing the opening Advent devotion, special music, reading scripture, offering prayers, leading the Creed or Lord’s prayer, or even just the “Go in peace, serve the Lord!” at the end.  It’s as easy as clicking a link on your smart phone or computer—if you can Zoom, you can do this (it’s actually easier!)  Let Deb Seay or Heather know if you would like to be part of worship.  We would love for everyone in our congregation to take a turn!

You can read about the increases in Stanwood here  and here’s a recent article about Josephine  Also, please be thoughtful as you celebrate Thanksgiving, as the health department is recognizing the danger of even small-group gatherings and is expecting an exponential increase in COVID cases following Thanksgiving.

We know that this move is disappointing, and we’re working hard to make sure we can get together in ways that keep everyone safe and healthy.  But for now, we’ll just have to continue to wait.  Advent is a time of waiting and hoping, sitting in the darkness and knowing that God is bringing about something new.  So we pray “Stir up our hearts, Lord Christ, and come!”  (like, soon!)
